CRUCIBLE SHIRAZ 2018
Crucible is our premium Shiraz, produced in small quantities (1 000 - 1 500 bottles) when conditions are optimal. It derives its name from the hot and dry circumstances under which the vines ripen the grapes. The conditions under which these vines flourish is adverse and truly crucible. This is our standard-bearer and a wine we are extremely proud of. It is deeply concentrated and supported by a firm, yet elegant tannin structure.
This wine has a deep ruby, purple colour and a complex nose of plums, violets, white pepper and cloves. A bold entrance to the palate introducing mulberries followed by a balanced tannin structure and a floral, lingering finish.
The Crucible Shiraz is the perfect companion to something bold like roasted duck, venison, a hearty oxtail casserole, as well as a simple pasta with black pepper and parmesan.
A Lynchpin - relates to the cornerstone that holds the various elements of a complicated structure together. This is an elegant blend of Cabernet Franc, a rich Merlot and some Cabernet Sauvignon. It provides an explosion of blackberries and dark cherries, supported by well-integrated French Oak.
This wine’s characteristics are accentuated especially when paired with beef or ostrich fillet covered in a rich truffle sauce, lamb tagine and creamy polenta, as well as vegetarian lasagne.
This wine has a deep ruby red colour, with elegant and concentrated aromas of plums, honey-bush and hints of cigar box on the nose. Rich flavours of prune follows through on the palate, supported by fruits and traces of candyfloss found on the nose. This wine is well supported with soft integrated tannins that leads to an elegant and smooth finish.
The Pinotage goes well with slow-roasted pork belly, homemade, peppery steak and kidney pie with crispy roast potatoes or a quiche loaded with lots of creamy blue cheese.
A graceful but robust Syrah with all the quintessential characteristics of this varietal. Think of white pepper and clove, dark, ripe mulberry and blackcurrent, together with the smokiness of subtle oak created from lightly toasted French barrels. A full-bodied wine with spicy flavours well supported by silky tannins.
Sweet and sour sugar bean Cape Malay curry, Springbok carpaccio, rich beef stew with dumplings or a sweet potato and butternut cinnamon glazed dish are all wonderful companions for this gorgeous wine.
CHENIN BLANC 2019
Rich and golden in hue with a nose leading into a well-integrated mélange of yellow-stone fruit, créme brulée and spices. The palate reveals ripe fruit, roasted almonds and hints of salted caramel and is far more buttery than most traditional Chenin Blancs. An almost savoury note finishes it off to showcase the opulence of the vintage.
Best enjoyed with rich fish dishes or cream-based chicken entrées.
