The Darling Grapevine had the following to say about Cloof on a recent Social Media post. A beautiful testament to the hard work and passion happening at Cloof. "Cloof is well known for their excellent wine but did you know they serve fantastic meals and now that Spring is literally around the corner, you can picnic on their beautiful lawns and take in the most breathtaking views.
We were greeted by Loretta and Tracey who bring an unexpected change to the Taste room atmosphere. Two lovely women who made us feel extremely welcome. Loretta (events and procurement manager), whose husband is Henny the head winemaker, is new to the farm (not that you would say so with her knowledge and love of the area) is passionate about bringing people back to visit Cloof to experience all the wonders that it has to offer. Tracey (taste room manager, kitchen and the list goes on) is a breath of fresh air and knows everything there is to know about the wines and the area. She also holds the secret to the rib marinade. We had the Women's Month special which is finger licking ribs with a delicious secret Sexy Shiraz basting that was heavenly. We paired it with the Duckitt Bordeaux blend which was perfect. For me, the 'dusty road' there is amazing. It's only about 5km. Take it easy otherwise you will miss out on the incredible birdlife and flora. Flamingos seem to be in abundance this year, Blue Cranes and Spoonbills. Then there are also the smaller bird varieties. The area is also renowned for its wildflowers. If you're a photography lover, this is the place to be. Neighbouring Cloof is Burgherspost, Cloof’s sister farm. They offer: - Game Drives and Flower Drives (in Season) through 1200 Ha of critically endangered Cape Lowlands Fynbos and Renosterveld Nature Reserve. - 2 Luxury self-catering cottages with amazing views. Look out for the Cloof sign at the railway crossing on the way from Darling to Malmesbury and do not be deterred by the 'dusty road' it's well worth the meander. The rib special ends tomorrow but Wikideals has a special on until the end of September. We were assured that there were lots more on the cards for Cloof so watch this space.
