Continuing our theme of creating individual labels that express the wine’s unique character and personality, we are excited to reveal to the world two new wines:
Inkspot
The concept for this wine came about several months ago when we were tasting Pinotage from the tank. “It’s so inky!” said one of us (and it really was unbelievably dense). In fact, its colour was so dense that we went one further and used the descriptor ‘Vin Noir’ on the label. Why stop at Vin Blanc and Vin Rouge?
We’ve worked out that we get less than one litre’s worth of wine from each of our unirrigated bush vines, which goes some way to explaining the intensity and concentration of our wines.
Inkspot is based on Pinotage (78%), which we’ve blended with Shiraz (12%) and Cinsaut (10%) to accentuate the wine’s Mediterranean spiciness. Part of the blend was aged in barrel, which balances the wine’s intense fruitiness.
We recommend a serving temperature of 16-18 °C, and wouldn’t be at all averse to popping a few cubes of ice into the glass on a warm day.
The Dark Side
Giving in to Hedonism – the pursuit of pleasure – is the ‘dark side’ we had in mind when we were creating the label for this luscious blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.
It’s a wine with curves where others don’t have places. Uninhibitedly richer, juicier, bigger, bolder – and proud of it.
Our climate just does not make size 0 wines (which in any case mathematically do not provide any significant alcohol advantage). We say, “If you’ve got it, flaunt it!”
More than half the blend was aged in French Oak barriques for 12 months – luxury treatment for a wine at this retail price.
We expect Inkspot and The Dark Side to retail for around £6.99 in the UK, or R45 in South Africa (bear in mind that alcohol tax in South Africa is only about 10p per bottle, and import duties vary around the world).
