Anti-alcohol campaigners in the UK are up in arms about a new product, called AWOL (alcohol without liquid). It consists of alcohol vapour that has the same effect as drinking it, but without the calories. Apparently it also gives a good ‘hit’.

With Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay fermenting away happily (and tasting pretty good), the Cloof cellar is in full Pinotage swing at the moment.

Harvest started today, with the first load of Chardonnay being welcomed at the crusher by a ceremonial drizzle of sparkling wine over the grapes (the balance was shared between cellar and marketing staff).

We are of the considered (and totally unbiased) opinion that dry rosé is the perfect wine for a hot summer’s day. Less acidic than sauvignon blanc, yet sufficiently zesty to refresh and invigorate the palate, with gorgeous berry fruits, it’s great with most al fresco meals.
